The young man took three buses to get home from work. He walked through the open gates of his apartment complex where he was subsequently shot multiples times. The apartment complex, owned by a private equity company, knew about the high number of crimes, but failed to provide the necessary security to keep the premises safe. Attorney Funk sued the complex for unsafe conditions including poor lighting, lack of security, and negligent video surveillance.
The young man required surgery and hospitalization, but made a full recovery. The victim was awarded a substantial settlement which allowed him to pay off his medical bills and provide for his family.
